Description of the organisation

ADAMANT is a Greek SME founded in 2012, by experienced Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers with competence in nanotechnology, composites processing and design & analysis of composite structures. Since then, ADAMANT has participated in a number of Research, Technology and Innovation projects of the European Space Agency and the European Commission. As of April 2016, ADAMANT has moved to new facilities of 1100m2; where are hosted company’s activities in both the directions of Materials & Processes (Hall 1 – 800m2) and the Space Systems branch with emphasis on AIT (Hall 2 – 300m2). The department of Materials & Processes, and its subdivisions of engineering design, composite materials processing and manufacturing unit and quality control sector, will be mainly involved in the realization of MMAMA project.

Currently the company is staffed with a 15-strong team of engineers, technicians and management answering to the needs of the markets, adding up >10yrs and >30yrs of cumulative experience in business and technical expertise respectively. The assembled team comprises 20% Tech.-Ing., 80% Dipl.-Ing. of which 40% hold PhDs in the fields of advanced materials and composite structures. With an average age of 32.4yrs the team has a collectively unique combination of complementary expertise and international exposure. ADAMANT is an equal opportunity employer.

ADAMANT has been certified by EUROCERT under EN ISO 9001:2008 (Certificate number 1869/Δ) and it is a member of the Greek Association of Space Industries and a member of the Hellenic Space Technologies and Applications Cluster (si-Cluster) and a member of NAFEMS.

Significant infrastructure / major items of technical equipment

As of April 2016, ADAMANT has moved to new facilities; the Adamant Innovation and Production Centre. An industrial facility of 1100m2 ready to host the company’s activities and enhance both the directions of Materials & Processes (Hall 1 800m2) and the Space Systems branch with emphasis on AIT (Hall 2 300m2) (Figure 1). The equipment of the field of business are presented hereafter, focusing on the main equipment that is going to be used for the demands of MMAMA project. For most of the activities of ADAMANT for the project the film applicator will be used (Figure 2) and the Roll-to-Roll pilot line (Figure 3). The film applicators is equipped with an auto feed, adjustable doctor blade, available to be used on different substrates, for a wide viscosity range of slurries. The system contains also a ventilation system and it is PC controlled (speed, rate, start point, end point). The maximum film dimensions that can be produced with this equipment are (250*800) mm2. The Roll-to-Roll pilot line will be used for the in-line demonstration of MMAMA prototype, during the functionalization of prepregs. For the post processing of the films and prepregs the Autoclave from the Composites Manufacturing Unit will be used (Figure 4). It has a diameter of 1000mm and a length of 2000mm. Its operational conditions can reach a maximum temperature and pressure of 200oC and 10 bar, respectively. This system is also suitable for production of aeronautics grade composites.

As secondary structures, potentially useful for the project, is presented here the main equipment and field of business of the company:
